Running Surge

23 10 2008

I don’t know why, and I know I should not, but I felt this urge to run and there I went.

On the falling of the night, out for a run in my favorite runner trails. It was just like when I first went running here, last year… it was starting to rain and completely dark, I went out the hotel door and thought I should be kind of insane to go out running in the cold and wet, alone and in a strange city… well I was completely wrong and just like that first time, I came across a dozen of runners of all kinds and ages, people walking, running, cycling or just staring at the river, unbelievable and just perfect.

I just can’t seem to stop loving this city, are there any other places like this on earth? Maybe Canada!?

After Work Biking

23 10 2008
AWB Wet Ride

AWB Wet Ride

This wednesday as has become usual I went for the AWB with my German colleague mountain bikers. Although it was not raining that much, the group decided to do go back after some 10kms and after going alone for a couple more kilometers I also decided to go back.

The ride turned out to be a 10km sprint on my way back to the city, always riding above 160bpm and close to 30km/h on flat ground.

It reminded me the G100 (Grandola, Portugal) marathon in wet and cold weather back in 2005, with some differences, like being all alone at night in the woods with 8°C along the river, this was also a first!

These after work rides are a really nice initiative by the M97 group, it reminds me of “Why didn’t I do this back home?”. I guess it has always been a matter of peace of mind. Anyway it has been and will be my introduction to the mountain biking scene around here, but much more is still there to be discovered and learned.

Here is the training graph below.
