New Start

30 03 2009

Ok, I got the new insoles and tried my running shoes for a 2.1 km slow run. It was a run/walk/run not to stress the knee. I felt good, of course, I wanted to run faster and longer… but I didn’t. I will give it some time, progress slowly and focus on the biking and upper body strengthening. I felt very tired on a 2h ride (in the Gym) because I didn’t eat properly. I kept a good pace and on a harder gear and I remember thinking it will not be a peach to ride the Alps :P . But that’s OK, I am (getting) mentally prepared and am working consistently on the physical preparation. I feel like registering for my first bike challenge in Germany. I will do it this week, only after I pay the rent…

Back to the running experience, it was nice and I am feeling a bit different after Saturday, but I think last week I felt more discomfort because of the cold. This last days I sometimes didn’t even remember I had this injury but it is still too soon for celebrating.

The shoes are just awesome, they look great and that’s not even the reason I chose them, not at all. They feel really supporting and now I know what “control running shoes” are all about.

The insoles are a bit strange, they support the inner side of my feet and also the outer rim, and… they have a bump in the front part of the foot at the middle. It feels almost like having a (soft) stone in each shoe but there should be a medical explanation for it, I will investigate.

Tomorrow will start another training week, still no running plan from the PT but I have my biking plan and want also to add a 2.5 k’s run to the log. I still have no BPM graphs for the runs, I need to buy a new watch somewhere in the future.

I think I should earn it first with some sweat…

Let’s say… I will only buy the watch (when I have the money and) when I sum up 100 k’s in the running log!! Sounds good. Would only sound better if Polar would give it to me free (sponsor’s needed)…

(Edit) Have a better idea. I will run one kilometer for each Euro it will cost me… 399 kms it will be.

(Edit) Including the GPS G3 sensor the price is 499€, so… got a lot of running still to do.

Moving Forward

14 03 2009

After some more adventures with the German life in Stuttgart I feel like I am finally moving forward, or at least picking up where I left things back in October 2008 (in Munich).
Life is now fairly back to normal, I have again my (rented) place to live with all the basics (that includes DSL service!), my job (plus some separate small projects), time for Mountain Biking and as a plus I am now back in the Gym. Talk about time lagging… It really feels like I skipped half a year and for most of it I don’t even care… No further comments on that.
Now, after some time of doubt regarding my objectives I am beginning to think it will possible to accomplish what I really wished for this year.
The training at the Gym is making me feel good after only one week. Although it brought back my left knee injury as I had already restarted with my runs some two weeks ago… I will now have to deal with it, seriously. Anyway it doesn’t affect the bike training for now. What’s sad is that I feel real good when running (after the pain goes away and) after the first km.

This is the first post after a long time with no DSL service at home so I expect to write some flashbacks within the next days about the adventures of living “Lost In Translation” daily (a lot of stuff happened in the last 7 weeks!).
